Class 4 Call Manager (C4CM)

The Clarent® Class 4 Call Manager (C4CM) is the strategically crucial central call control element of IPVision’s end-to-end PSTN access softswitch solution. This Class 4 Call Manager cost-effectively performs the key functions of call routing, user authentication, connection control, internet offload, and signaling of the Clarent® BHG. (Connection control refers to the setup and teardown of calls).
User authentication is specific to the processing of transactions after the Clarent® Command Center clears user authentication and establishes the account to be charged.
The interface between the Clarent® C4CM and gateway includes TPNCP and MGCP. This suite of protocols subsequently accommodates the full spectrum of service providers communications needs. Adopting these open protocols assures that the Clarent® C4CM will be a smooth integration for IPVision’s customers across the globe, with an inherent scalability that takes traditional circuit switching to the next level of telephony evolution.
The Class 4 Call Manager (C4CM) is carrier-grade, UNIX based, NEBS-compliant. As the central call control element in IPVision’s PSTN Access Softswitch solution, the C4CM is designed to augment or replace Class 4 telephony switches.

C4CM Supported Protocols:
⁃ MGCP: Media Gateway Control Protocol is used to control Clarent BHG and third-party media gateways. MGCP specifies protocols and procedures for managing MGCP endpoints  and establishing connections. MGCP ensures interoperability with other MGCPcompatible components. ⁃ RTP: Real-time Transport Protocol is used to transport voice/fax/modem data through the IP network. ⁃ SIP: Session Initiation Protocol used for providing call management for static SIP/SIP-T gateways and proxies. ⁃ SNMP: Simple Network Management Protocol is used to monitor and control C4CM operation through a network management station. ⁃ SS7: Signaling System 7 is used to communicate call signaling information to the SS7 Server (MPSS or SG5600 SS7 blade), or the ISS 1000. ⁃ ThroughPacket: This Clarent proprietary protocol combines VoIP packets from multiple conversations with the same destination into a single, larger packet with only one header (address) packet. By reducing the number of header packets needed for communication, ThroughPacket decreases bandwidth requirements. ⁃ XML: Extensible Markup Language, a standards-based protocol that delivers information to disparate systems as a common data format.
